EMDR
I first saw a therapist when I was a junior in college. I was struggling with social anxiety. In certain situations I would come close to having a panic attack because I was so consumed with what others might be thinking of me or that they may be judging me.
That initial therapy experience was transformative for me. My therapist’s general compassion for my situation and his ability to help me widen and shift my perspective helped relieve my anxiety which was getting in the way of me connecting more with people and enjoying life in general.
He also employed the use of EMDR, which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming. It’s a type of therapy that helps people process and heal from traumatic experiences. EMDR drastically dissolved the impact that some past negative experiences had on me. I was able to let go of certain underlying limiting beliefs about myself and be more free and more myself.
I now love being able to work with people in therapy to help them experience more of the freedom they are looking for in their lives. EMDR is just one therapeutic modality I use, but it is certainly an effective one and one for which I am personally grateful.
