About Me
People’s stories have always fascinated me. I’m deeply interested in the human condition and what drives and motivates people. My own story has uniquely led me to the profession I have and love today. I have always been drawn to helping people and offering hope and connection in difficult times.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I received graduate degrees in theological studies and counseling psychology from Covenant Theological Seminary (2009). My work history prior to becoming a therapist includes social work, spiritual direction, and law enforcement officer at the local and federal levels. I was a social worker and police officer in St. Louis City before joining the FBI as a special agent and becoming a crisis negotiator. While I am proud of my time spent in civil service, I came to terms with the truth that, at my core, I’m better suited to be, and simply must be, an agent of mercy and hope rather than an agent of state justice.
I work with groups and individuals who are looking to heal from trauma, understand the roots of their anxiety and depression, or who are determined to have better relationships with others and themselves. When appropriate, I incorporate EMDR and Brainspotting as tools in individual therapy and find both of these approaches to be effective treatments for trauma and anxiety.
In my work with couples I am influenced by the work of couples’ therapists Esther Perel and Terry Real. I also incorporate aspects of Imago, Gottman, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) theories and techniques into my work with couples. My unique life experience has honed my natural mediation skills which enables me to work well with couples in conflict. I enjoy drawing out the emotions and thoughts below the surface in arguments and I see conflict as an opportunity for greater intimacy and connection.
I especially enjoy working with clients who are in spiritual recovery as well as clients dealing with LGBTQ+ matters. Religious trauma is real, and having experienced it myself, I am called to help others heal from it as well. In my practice, I welcome and affirm people from all religious and/or spiritual backgrounds, as well as the diversity of sexual and gender identities.
